Understanding Lumbar Spondylosis: A Science-Backed Approach to Chronic Back Pain

At Regen Clinic, we support clients through a wide range of health challenges—from autoimmune conditions and degenerative diseases to everyday pain management. In this post, we’re diving deeper into one of the most common causes of lower back pain: Lumbar Spondylosis, and how Red Light Therapy (RLT) can support long-term relief.

What Is Lumbar Spondylosis?

Lumbar Spondylosis—also known as degenerative joint disease of the spine—is a form of arthritis that affects the lower back. Over time, the cartilage and discs between vertebrae break down, leading to stiffness, pain, and reduced mobility. It’s most common in adults over 40, but it can affect younger people as well—especially those with physically demanding jobs or long-standing postural imbalances.

Symptoms may include:

  • Persistent lower back pain
  • Morning stiffness that improves with movement
  • Limited range of motion
  • Muscle tension or spasms
  • Shooting pain or numbness in the legs (sciatica)

What Causes It?

While aging is the primary factor, lumbar spondylosis may also be caused or worsened by:

  • Repetitive strain or injury
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Poor posture or spinal alignment
  • Previous trauma to the spine

The result is wear-and-tear that leads to inflammation, nerve compression, and pain that can interfere with daily life.

How Red Light Therapy Can Help

Red Light Therapy (also called photobiomodulation) uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate healing in tissues at a cellular level. At Regen Clinic, we use THOR Laser technology, which is trusted by NASA, Harvard, and major hospitals around the world.

THOR Treatment Protocol for Lumbar Spondylosis

Here’s how we treat this condition using THOR’s recommended clinical protocol:

Treatment Focus:

  • Reduce inflammation and swelling
  • Stimulate lymphatic drainage
  • Relieve myofascial trigger points
  • Improve mobility and reduce pain

Treatment Frequency:

  • Initial Phase: Daily sessions for 5 days (or at least 3x/week)
  • Phase 2: Twice a week for 4 weeks
  • Phase 3: Weekly for 3–5 weeks
  • Maintenance: As needed based on symptom response

Target Areas:

  • Affected discs and facet joints in the lumbar spine
  • Sacral and inguinal lymph nodes (for systemic inflammation)
  • Trigger points in gluteal and lumbar musculature
  • L3–S1 region, bilaterally (especially in cases of persistent pain)

Tools Used:

  • THOR’s Giant Laser Cluster and LED Cluster probes
  • Trigger Point Lasers for focused pain relief

Backed by Clinical Research

Multiple studies support the use of red light therapy for back pain and spinal degeneration:

  • Chen et al. (2021): Laser therapy significantly reduced chronic low back pain (PMID: 34757882)
  • Ahmed et al. (2022): Improved nerve pain in lumbar disc patients (PMID: 35265302)
  • Tantawy et al. (2019): RLT outperformed ultrasound in reducing pain and disability (PMID: 30334124)

These findings align with our experience at Regen Clinic: many patients report relief from pain, greater mobility, and a reduced need for medication.

Take the First Step Toward Relief

If you’re struggling with lower back pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility, red light therapy may be a powerful tool in your healing plan. At Regen Clinic, we tailor every treatment to your unique needs—whether you’re managing a chronic condition or simply want to move with more ease.
